Cheers for the blog! Ponoko's pretty excited about where our future's heading as well. You're pretty much summed up the various possibilities in a nutshell. Personal manufacturing is just that - personal, ie: designing/creating for one. So this offers you not just the option of making an amazing new product that many love and therefore earns you money. But is also a place where you can create that 'thing' that you've personally always wanted. Hence 'designing for one'. We're in closed beta (testing) at the moment, but in a couple of months will launch open beta for all prospective experienced and inexperience designers, inventors etc, to come on board and trial the Ponoko place for themselves. At present we are also only manufacturing in New Zealand (nice ref to Conchords by the way, Brett is the little brother of a mate of mine and is quite strange to see him all grown up and doing so well!) but this will branch out to worldwide production availability in a short time span. Our closed beta designers just had a launch night where they showed some of their pieces. People such as Jeff, who isn’t a designer, has created some amazing furniture that has already received worldwide interest and sales. His, and 19 of Ponoko's other designers, showcased their pieces in Wellington last week, as highlighted in Ponoko’s latest blog: http://www.ponoko.com/blog/2007/07/22/ponoko-beta-user-night-at-the-paramount/. Awesome stuff guys, more photos are on the flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/flash5/sets/72157600908341192/. It’s just mindblowing to consider where this company will be in six months, a year, and then beyond. And then also mindblowing for all the designers/creators/inventors who will be a part of it! If this sounds like a bit of you. Sign up to be a part of the open beta testing that will happen in a couple of months through www.ponoko.com Cheers, Nic, Ponoko.
